Candle Care Tips

Lighting and burning a candle is one of life's most relaxing rituals.  There are a couple of things that you can do to get the best out of your new candles.  Of course, the most important thing is to never leave a burning candle unattended.  Read below for some other crucial tips.

Trim your wick!

It is very important to trim your candle wick to 1/4 inch prior to each and every new burn.  This keeps the flame height safe, prevents soot and smoke from forming and accumulating on the sides of the vessel, and also greatly prolongs the life of your candle.  It is best to burn your candle for no more than 4 hours at a time.  When you see the wick turning into a large mushroom-shaped ball, it is definitely time for a trim.  Wooden wick candles need to have the excess burnt char removed from the top of the wood wick, as burnt wood will not re-light and burn properly.

The first burn is the most important!

The first burn of your new candle should be a minimum of three hours, or however long it takes for the wax to melt completely across the diameter of the vessel.  Wax has a memory, and doing this will help prevent any tunneling down into the center of the wax.
